What to do right after a car accident
Step by step: which documents you need and how a broker speeds up your compensation.
A car accident is stressful, and it’s easy to miss an important step. Here’s a short action plan that protects your interests and speeds up the compensation that follows.
Step 1 — Make it safe
Turn on your hazard lights, place a warning triangle, and check that everyone involved is unhurt. If anyone is injured, call 112 immediately.
Step 2 — Document everything
- Photograph the vehicles’ positions, the damage and the license plates.
- Exchange names, phone numbers and policy details with the other driver.
- If there are witnesses, note down their contact details.
Step 3 — Decide whether to call the police
If both drivers agree on what happened and no one is hurt, you can fill in a bilateral accident report yourselves. If there’s a dispute, an injury, or unclear fault, wait for the police at the scene.
Step 4 — Notify your insurer and broker
Get in touch with us as soon as possible after the incident. We prepare and submit the required documents on your behalf and follow up with the insurer, so you receive fair and timely compensation.
